The Swedish Social Insurance Inspectorate

The Swedish Social Insurance Inspectorate (Inspektionen för socialförsäkringen, ISF) is an independent supervisory agency for the Swedish social insurance system. The ISF is an agency of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, and reports to the Minister for Social Security, and the Swedish public.

The objectives of the agency are to strengthen compliance with legislation and other statutes, and to improve the efficiency of the social insurance system through system supervision and efficiency analysis and evaluation.

System supervision refers to the process of examining whether a supervised entity’s internal control system guarantees the accurate and uniform application of legislation and other statutes.

Performing efficiency reviews and evaluations means examining whether an entity’s operations are efficient in terms of the political intentions formulated by Parliament and Government.
